Preschoolers are children between the ages of three and five years old who are in the early stages of learning and development. During this stage, they are developing their primary teeth, also known as baby teeth, which will eventually fall out and be replaced by permanent teeth. However, this does not mean that dental health should be neglected. In fact, tooth decay is the most common dental disease among preschoolers, with one out of ten two-year-olds already having one or more cavities. As a result, it is important for parents and caregivers to be aware of dental health tips for…

Traditional Mexican cooking is loaded with ingredients that are exceptionally good for your body after 50. Keep these in mind this Cinco de Mayo, and anytime! Start with beans. Black, pinto, and all varieties deliver a powerful combination of protein, fiber, and key minerals like iron, magnesium, and potassium. They support muscle health, help manage blood sugar, and keep cholesterol in check. Chiles are next. The capsaicin that makes them hot has anti-inflammatory properties and supports cardiovascular health — both of which matter more as you age. You don’t have to go scorching hot to get the benefit. Avocado earns its reputation. It…

This delicious dairy free low carb strawberry overnight oats recipe is an easy breakfast with the best texture and 22 grams of protein! Dairy-Free Overnight “Oats” Without Oats If you’ve been searching for healthy overnight oats, you’ve probably seen recipes using rolled oats, old-fashioned oats, steel-cut oats, or even quick oats. But for many women—especially in midlife—those traditional overnight oat recipes don’t support fat loss, blood sugar balance, or inflammation goals. Ever watched someone demolish a massive salad, then raid the pantry an hour later? I used to think they just needed more beans or tofu on their plate. Turns out, I had it completely backward. The vegetarian community has been obsessing over protein for years. We count grams, combine amino acids, and defend our choices with nutrition facts. Meanwhile, we’re missing something far more fundamental about why some plant-based meals leave people genuinely unsatisfied. After years of cooking vegetarian food and watching how different people respond to the same dishes, I’ve noticed a pattern that has nothing to do with…

For this vegan version, we are cooking the sausage-y crumbles first.…

Our family goes through a lot of salads during the spring and summer months. It’s a great way to use random garden veggies and get more nutrition in. If you’re tired of the typical vinaigrette and ranch dressing, then try this sesame ginger dressing on your next salad. You’ll often see a version of this at Japanese restaurants. Japanese ginger dressing basically has the same ingredients as my recipe, but with added soy sauce or miso.  Carrot Ginger Salad Dressing I’ve eaten plenty of carrots in my salad before, but actually putting them in the salad dressing wasn’t something I…

This week a new coffee shop opened up inside The Bottle Shop in Victorian Village: Palomino! I’ve always loved the space at The Bottle Shop, and being able to sip an espresso and a flat white there is a top-notch experience, in my opinion. And you know how much I love coffee shop/cocktail bar combos. Palomino’s menu spans espresso drinks, matcha, chai, and seasonal specialties. I tasted a shot of espresso and a flat white to start, and really enjoyed both! I think that, like many shops, they will appeal nicely to the casual coffee drinker and the more experienced.…

Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common hormonal disorder in women of reproductive age. About 1 in 10 women have it, and many of them don’t know until they’re trying to conceive and run into problems. It causes irregular periods, excess androgens (male hormones), hair loss, unwanted hair growth, acne, and those characteristic cysts on the ovaries. Over the long term, it significantly increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and endometrial cancer. Women are told to ‘eat healthier,’ but the guidance is often vague. Doctors mention low-carb, Mediterranean diet, intermittent fasting, and advise women to just lose…
