You’re not sick. But you’re not quite yourself, either.

Maybe it’s the unexplained headaches. Or the nights you wake up at 2 a.m. and can’t seem to get back to sleep. Or the mood shifts that come out of nowhere.

Maybe it’s the fatigue that no amount of rest seems to take away. Or the mental fog that makes you wonder what’s really wrong. You’re not really sick, but you’re not quite right either.

Life doesn’t come with a manual exactly. And many women don’t realize that these symptoms often have a common cause: hormone imbalance. It doesn’t only affect women after menopause; it can begin in the late 30s, through the 40s and 50s, and touch nearly every system in your body.

The good news is that God designed your body with a remarkable capacity to restore balance when you give it the right support. Luminology is our attempt to help women find plant-based support for hormone balance. We did a small clinical test among women when we launched it.

Why Hormonal Symptoms Are So Easy to Miss

Hot flashes and night sweats are what most women think of when people talk about hormone imbalance. But hormone imbalance can be much more than just these two symptoms, much more.

Take a look at this list:

    • Migraine headaches
    • Insomnia
    • Depression
    • Anxiety
    • Mood swings
    • Brain fog
    • Memory problems
    • Low sex drive
    • Painful or fibrocystic breasts
    • Fatigue
    • Thinning hair
    • Dry or thin skin
    • Vaginal dryness
    • Weight gain
    • A red flush or brown spots on the face

These symptoms tend to creep up on you gradually. Unless you look at a list, you don’t realize how many of them you actually have. And you think they’re just due to stress or aging. But it’s actually hormone disruption underneath that drives all of these symptoms.

The underlying problem is anovulatory cycles, which are menstrual cycles without ovulation. This means there’s no progesterone produced in the second half of your cycle. (Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum after the egg is released.) So you end up with estrogen dominance. This can start in the late 30s, accelerates through the 40s, and continues until menopause.

Then you add on the burden of xenoestrogens, which are hormone-disrupting chemicals in food, plastics, and personal care products. And now your endocrine system has a serious challenge.

Luminology: A Different Philosophy of Hormone Support

Hormone replacement therapy is just that: exogenous hormones or hormone-like substances to give you what your body is not making. This approach is used by bioidentical hormones as well as medical hormone replacement therapy. Luminology takes a fundamentally different approach.

Rather than adding hormones from outside your body, Luminology was formulated to support the endocrine system’s own capacity to produce and balance its own hormones. We believe the body was designed to heal and regulate itself when you give it the right building blocks and keep toxins out of the way. Rather than going straight to adding more hormones, we try to gently bring the body into balance.

The formula contains six evidence-informed ingredients:

    MacaPure® (standardized maca extract):

Maca is an adaptogenic Peruvian root vegetable that grows at 12,000–14,000 feet elevation — one of the harshest environments on earth. Its adaptogenic action means it moves the body toward hormonal balance regardless of the direction of imbalance. MacaPure® is the only maca extract standardized on macamides and macaenes, the unique active compounds in maca root. Clinical studies have shown that maca is effective in reducing hot flashes and night sweats without containing any plant estrogens. It works through an adaptogenic mechanism.

    Vitex (Chaste Berry):

Vitex berry works on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, stimulating luteinizing hormone (LH) and mildly inhibiting follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The net effect is support for progesterone production — without supplying any hormones. Research has also shown vitex to normalize menstrual cycle length and reduce cyclical breast pain (mastalgia). In younger women, vitex berry may also increase fertility.

    DIM (Diindolylmethane):

DIM, derived from cruciferous vegetables, accelerates the metabolism of excess estrogens and shifts the ratio toward 2-hydroxy estrogen metabolites rather than 16-hydroxy metabolites — a shift associated with lower breast cancer risk. DIM also competes with testosterone for binding to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), increasing free testosterone levels, which matters for energy and libido.

    Phytosterols:

Beta-sitosterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, and related stanols serve as precursors for pregnenolone, the master hormone from which the body synthesizes DHEA and progesterone as needed. Rather than forcing specific hormone levels, phytosterols give the body what it needs to self-regulate.

    Zinc:

Excess estrogen depletes zinc stores, and women eating plant-based diets are already at greater risk of zinc insufficiency. Zinc plays key roles in immune function, hormonal signaling, and fertility.

    Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (BioActive B6):

The active form of B6, not the common pyridoxine, has been shown to ease PMS symptoms and reduce inflammation. It also functions as an antioxidant, preventing lipid oxidation and blocking the formation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs), making it broadly beneficial beyond hormone balance alone.

The Study: 44 Women, 8 Weeks, Real Results

To evaluate whether Luminology actually delivers on its promise, Hallelujah Diet’s research team conducted a formal 8-week clinical study under the direction of Michael Donaldson, PhD. Fifty-one women consented to participate, with complete data available for 44 women ranging in age from the 30s through the 70s.

Participants were recruited through Hallelujah Acres’ mailing list and screened using a symptom-based questionnaire. They were instructed to begin at 1 capsule per day and gradually increase until symptoms were alleviated, up to a maximum of 9 capsules daily. Weekly symptom surveys tracked changes across 14 distinct symptom categories, with each symptom rated on a five-point scale. A consistent two-point improvement was considered a significant positive response.

    Overall findings:

28 of 44 women (64%) experienced significant improvement overall. Two-thirds of both premenopausal women and early postmenopausal women responded positively. Among women in late postmenopause, one in two found meaningful relief.

But the most striking results came from a specific subgroup.

The Peri-Menopausal Sweet Spot: Ages 46–52

Among the 13 women between ages 46 and 52 — the classic peri-menopausal window when hormonal shifts are most dramatic — 11 of 13 (85%) experienced significant relief. Symptom-by-symptom, the results in this group were remarkable:

    • Hot flashes improved in 6 of 7 women (86%).
    • Night sweats improved in 7 of 8 (88%).
    • Insomnia improved in all 8 who reported it (100%).
    • Vaginal dryness and painful intercourse improved in 4 of 5 (80%).
    • Depression, anxiety, mood swings, and weepiness improved in 8 of 10 (80%).
    • Low sex drive improved in 7 of 9 (78%).
    • Painful or fibrocystic breasts improved in 4 of 5 (80%).
    • Fatigue and exercise intolerance improved in 8 of 11 (73%).
    • Migraine headaches improved in 7 of 8 (88%).
    • Brain fog and memory problems improved in 6 of 10 (60%).

In most cases, relief began within the first month — even at doses as low as one capsule per day. As Dr. Donaldson noted in the study summary, when 80–88% of a consistent age group reports significant improvement in a specific symptom, placebo effects cannot account for that pattern.

“This dietary supplement helped them restore their hormonal balance, regain their mental composure, overcome their fatigue, and feel ‘alive.'”

    — Dr. Michael Donaldson, PhD, reporting on participant responses

What About Younger and Older Women?

Luminology showed meaningful benefits across the full age range studied, not only in peri-menopausal women. Among premenopausal women, about two-thirds found significant improvement, with especially strong results for migraines (75%), insomnia (67%), and low libido (60%). Among women in their late 50s and beyond, about half found meaningful symptom relief — a lower but still substantial response, likely reflecting the bigger hormonal changes of late postmenopause that may require individualized support beyond a single supplement.

Honesty About Side Effects and Limitations

As good as our supplement is, it’s true that it does not work for every woman. Nine participants in our study discontinued the supplement because of adverse reactions, mostly headaches being the most common complaint, along with the temporary intensification of pre-existing symptoms when they took higher doses of it. Two women reported allergic responses.

A genuine shortcoming of our study was that we did not have a placebo control group. So some of the results could have been due to the placebo effect. That said, when clinical trials of Maca-based products like MacaLife®  have shown 74 to 82% overall success rates, 85% success rate in its target age group without supplying any hormones, the results are not due just to a placebo. There’s a real effect here.

It’s also worth noting that Luminology is not a one-size-fits-all answer for every woman. Some women have deeper issues that require more work. They may need some progesterone cream as well, or need to add more magnesium to their diet and supplements. Or they may even want to try individualized bio-identical hormone therapy. But for a single supplement, this is a pretty amazing response rate.

    The Foundation Still Comes First

Luminology works best when it complements a health-promoting lifestyle, not replaces it. The foundational principles remain the same.

We counsel you to consume a mostly raw, plant-based, whole-foods diet with at least 9 to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, including fresh juice and plenty of leafy greens. Avoid white flour, refined sugar, or processed vegetable oils.

A healthy lifestyle also includes getting adequate, deep, restorative sleep every night, engaging in regular exercise, and actively working at reducing the effects of stress on the body.

As any natural healer would tell you, hormonal balance is deeply connected to your overall health. You can’t have poor health and great hormone balance at the same time. So you have to fix everything, but a supplement can help. When you’re working on everything else, it could be the boost that you need.

    Ready to Try Luminology?

Hallelujah Diet’s Luminology is designed to help women in all stages of menopause: peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause. The ingredients help bring balance, no matter which way you are out of balance.  Luminology is gluten-free and contains no synthetic hormones.

If the symptoms described in this article sound familiar, you deserve to know whether your body can find its way back to balance. The study results suggest that there’s a good chance that it can, especially if you’re between 46 and 52.
