A new Middle Eastern chain called Farooj Abo Al Abed entered the central Ohio market with a location on Sawmill Road, in the former Fusian storefront.

The large and open space features rows of tables, a stone-sided counter, with a charcoal grill busy in the kitchen.

The meat kabob sandwich meal seems to be a popular choice. It arrives on a tray if you’re dining in or a little box if you’re carrying out. The kebab wrap comes with fries, pickles, and their signature pink sauce.

The grilled kebab meal includes a variety of grilled meals piled on a pita with fries, pickles, and tomatoes.

Perhaps the most dramatic and memorable of the dishes was the chicken bucket meal. Much like a seafood boil, it arrives tossed in a sauce and bagged together. If you don’t know the routine, the server will kindly lay out a plastic tablecloth, dump out the rice from the top of the bucket, then pour out everything else on top of it.

They’ll give you gloves to eat it, although the chicken is tender enough you can use knife and fork. Although it wasn’t much to look at it, it turned out to be our favorite dish of the meal. The sauce is wonderfully flavorful, and completely douses the rice, chicken, corn, and potatoes.
Farooj Abo Al Abed is open Tuesday, 11 a.m. to midnight; Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, noon to midnight; Friday-Saturday, noon to 2 a.m.; Sunday, noon to 1 a.m.
