Orange Loaf Cake Recipe – how to make an easy and moist homemade cake with only 5 ingredients – with the video tutorial.

    Orange Loaf Cake Recipe

This orange loaf cake recipe is full of fresh orange juice and orange zest, giving it plenty of flavour, moist citrusy goodness and a sugar, crunchy orange infused topping.

Best of all, the soft and fluffy cake has only 5 ingredients and is super easy to put together.

How To Make The Easy Recipe

The 5 simple ingredients for the easy dessert recipe

Start by gathering the 5 simple ingredients that you’ll need to for homemade orange cake:

    • 110g/4oz Butter
    • 2 Oranges
    • 1/2 Cup Sugar (+2-3 Tablespoons for the topping)
    • 2 Eggs
    • 2 Cups Plain Flour

Place the butter into a small saucepan on the stove top over medium to high heat, cook until melted, pour it into a large mixing bowl, then set aside to cool slightly.

Grating the zest from an orange

To make the crunchy, sugary topping, grate the zest from both oranges into a small bowl using a microplane grater, and mix together with the 2-3 tablespoons of sugar, until well combined and you have the consistency of a crumble topping.

Orange zest and sugar topping mixture

The recipe suggests 2-3 tablespoons, it really depends on how sweet you like your sweet treats to be.

Getting back to the main cake batter, add the juice from both oranges to the melted butter by cutting the oranges in half and squeezing them over a sieve over the bowl with the butter.

Combining the cake batter ingredients together in a large bowl

Add in the remaining 1/2 cup sugar and eggs then whisk together with an electric mixer until you have a smooth and creamy mixture.

The whisked cake batter ready for the tin

Then, it’s just a matter of adding the flour to the mixture and giving it all a final whisk until you have a smooth cake batter.

Move the orange loaf cake batter to a loaf tin that’s lined with well greased baking paper, top with your orange zest topping then place into the oven at 180C/350F for 50 to 60 minutes or until the loaf is golden brown and cooked through.

Allow the cake to cool to room temperature in the tin before removing and serving, storing any leftovers in an airtight container.

Optional extra ingredients – add pinch of salt or vanilla extract to boost the flavor of the cake. You could also fold through raisins or chocolate chips for a studded loaf.

Topping Ideas – you can enjoy your cake as is, dusted with icing sugar or powdered sugar or even topped with buttercream, cream cheese frosting or your topping of choice.
